Housebuilding, Postpones

I was supposed to spearhead the housebuilding today at Quezon City with my fellow Tamaraw Volunteers. I had already talked with the OSAC’s University Coordinator Prof. Faustino and with Mr. Teem Torres of the Discipline office as well regarding this matter. Apart from that, I had also rushed text and phone brigades to probable volunteer-builders but then, I was here, typing this blog while listening to the hard pouring of the rain. Time wasted! That’s what I call it. I do not have any classes today, I have done all my home works and office works, and I had also sent the partnership letter to Hands-On-Manila and Khythe just this morning. Oh my! This day must have been the very suitable day for the housebuild. Many volunteers had confirmed their attendance. I do not have much workload to be bothered of. But since we cannot do the build under the rain, I have to postpone it and just burry my head on my Logic Book for the recitation tomorrow…

On University Preferences

Why FEU, you may ask. Yes! Many had already asked me the very query as if telling me that I should be in, say, a BETTER school. To be absolutely honest, I have never seen myself walking through the streets of Dr. Nicanor Reyes Sr. in Manila, overly exposed to air pollution and yes, to noise pollution as well, while carrying those heavy clearbooks I used to bring even during elementary years. More so, entering the forest of the Tamaraws located at the heart of the university belt had never been in my dreams (well, not even in my nightmares). But look where I am now…

Far Eastern University doesn’t occupy my list of preferred schools way back in high school. Maybe because I haven’t heard its name. Or maybe I’m just too much hyped with more-popular-and-better-universities like the UP-D, PUP, and UST. Maybe, just maybe. The reason why I wrote this blog is to share with you my reasons why I am in FEU now and not to those schools I have mentioned:

UP-Diliman---From the very moment I was born (oops, I’m committing hyperbole now), I had already began dreaming to study in this university. Dream, study, dream, study, study, dream. I keep on dreaming, and of course, studying very hard at the same time. Everything was planned. Someday, I’ll be a UPian. Oh my! It doesn’t realize. My mom forbade me from taking the entrance examination. But why?! FRATERNITIES. There are so many fraternities there son! People there are over intelligent, overindulgent, and impious. They even claim they’re smarter than God and worst, they’re atheists! So many reasons… She won. UP was then crossed out in my list and I cried it the whole night…

PUP----PUP had been close to my heart since most of my relatives had graduated from this state university. Also, many from my godparents do work here (whom who are expected to give me extra money, haha, just kidding). I and PUP are undeniably tightly-knitted. As expected, my mom let me took the examination and I passed with flying colors (98.8%). I was so happy by then. I opted to pursue engineering or chemistry course here. However, these hopeful plans of mine didn’t work out once again. Since “nursing outbreak” is still felt, people around me, close relatives at that, suggested to let me take Nursing as my course in college which I have never thought of becoming of. Once again, they succeeded. Since PUP-Manila doesn’t offer medical courses, I have to choose another school that offers this highly-chosen discipline. With that, I bade farewell to the Pylon.

Polytechnic University of the Philippines

UST--- To be able to study in a University as old as UST, not discounting the fact that our national hero graduated from here, was also once imbedded in my cerebral cells. With the thought that UST has much to offer since its existence is far unreachable, I firmly believed that it could feed my academic starvation to its full blast. Sad to say, I wasn't able to pass the requirements since I was busy that time, reviewing for various quiz bee and inter-school competitions I joined during my Senior year.

FEU Tamaraws: A Long Way to go this 68th Season

After having been defeated by the Dela Salle University Green Archers, FEU Tamaraws has shown great recovery as they outbeat all the teams in the league during the 1st round of the ever prestigious UAAP this 68th season. FEU Tamaraws might have lost 2 games this season during the elimination round with the University of the East Red Warriors (with only 5 point lead) and the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles (3 points away and whose victory is, say, questionable), but they still managed to protect their early lead with the recent standing of 11-2. The FEU Tams has irrefutably conquered the league in general and with this, I am very glad that I had been a Tamaraw by blood. As what I already stated in my early blogs, I am not a UAAP fanatic, but then, I still know how to cheer for my team come successes and defeats.

And oh! Here's my Top 5 Fave Players from the bench of the Green and Gold: (in order)

1. Jonas Villanueva
2. Arwind Santos
3. Marlon Adolfo
4 Jeffrey Chan
5. Barcellano

Bye, Grandpa!

Grandpa?! Grandpa?! Are you here? Can you here me? No. I know he can’t hear me and will no longer hear my call. He’s dead. He’s dead. After few weeks of his arrival at our home here in Manila, well, perhaps, to spend his vacation here, just this morning, he passed away. Life is indeed so precious so we must treasure every days of our lives. In my heart, I will always remember his smile, his voice, his naughty and childish disposition despite of age. Everyone of us will die. When there’s life, of course, apparently, there’s death. The Law of Duality that governs mankind is really superficial. Grandpa, you may not know how much we love you, but this I’ll tell you: I LOVE YOU!

Missing Kares-Where's the Prexy

One of the activities that graced the 1st General Assembly of the Tamaraw Volunteers this school year 05-06 is the induction of the NOT-THAT-NEWLY-ELECTED Executive Board Members. The ceremony was headed by Prof. Jose V. Faustino, a university coordinator slash senior adviser, who served as the inducting officer. Ooops! Wait! Where’s the president? She’s supposed to be here… Haha. Ridiculous as it may seem. Our dear President, Kares Salendrez along with our Health Services Directress, Nonaleam Dumlao, wasn’t there during the ceremony. Oh my! This would ruin the event. Or not. So as to give halt to these casualties, the ceremony had persisted of course, with the awed audience. After the roll call, Prof Faus proceeded with the following lines: Please raise your right hand and repeat after me… … … … Yes! The induction had ended without them. When we asked them where had they been, Ate Kares, as I fondly call her, told us that she was at the photocopying machine. Don't dare ask what has she photocopied that time.Well, I'll tell you: COPY OF OATH-TAKING LINES. This is really funny! right?! Anyways, let's just have the three of you (Ate Kares, who was at the photocopying lobby, Ate Nona, who has unknown whereabouts that tiime and Jenny, the Nursing stude who can't afford to absent herself from calss)inducted on the next general assembly of the org... :-D

On Liberal Arts

After months of thinking whether I am going to shift from one course to another, alas, I have already taken the step for the greater good-from the most popular course nowadays to Bachelor of Liberal Arts Major in English Language. So far, I enjoy being one of the English majors. Though we are only few in our department, I could still say that I am quite contended to where I am now-from IN to IAS, from health care subjects to linguistics and language study. Whoa! I could still remember the day when I, bravely and openly, proposed to my mom me to shift course. And yes, she had left me the more arduous task of making the best decision. And look where I am now-taking interesting subjects, walking through the halls of the Arts Building, no more in Law and Nursing Building or in Education Hall Building, and proudly telling the whole world that I have succeeded in following my dreams’ first step. For now, I could say that I am totally freed upon the cage of dishonest likings, of unwantedness…

On Premiere UAAP Experience

Often, my colleagues would tell me: You are not a real Tamaraw if you don’t experience yelling inside the Big Dome. Oh yes, standing, or even jumping, never sitting, while youthfully cheering "Go FEU!" were the usual scenarios I often miss due to some reasons.True! At first, maybe because I am just too much pre-occupied with academics and organizational concerns (I know I am), going to the venue of the UAAP doesn’t occupy even the lowliest spot in my itinerary, of course, not even Sundays. I would even tell my classmates that I don’t want to waste my precious time there since I have so much to do, that it’ll just bore me to hell, that I will not enjoy it. Haha, so many excuses! Well, you can’t blame for I am not really fond of watching basketball games. The list is indeed long as one can imagine but that was not until I experienced the cheerful and blissful adrenalin rush brought by the agile, skillful and, maybe, good-looking shooters and dribblers from MY BELOVED UNUIVERSITY. Twas’ the fight between FEU and UP. No, it was a fight between me and UP, rather. Now, I know how it feels to witness the battle of the UAAP. Schoolmates, welcome me as I joined you in yelling: Go Fight FEU…
